i declare this new music month. (months? year? whatever.)
thank god i a) went to coachella, b) have a *lot* of old (and new!) friends who love music as much as (or, quite possibly more) than i do, and c) temporarily re-subscribed to emusic.
i think i listened to all of four “new” albums last calendar year, two of them from artists i already knew and worshiped. unacceptable.
thankfully, despite my immune system refusing to cooperate so far this year, good and new music has not been shy around these parts. here is what i’m currently oscillating somewhere between liking and loving right now, in no particular order.
broken social scene - forgiveness rock record (a big duh.)
yeasayer - odd blood (i really liked a lot of things about their first album, this one is just tighter and better all around.)
broken bells - broken bells (danger mouse + james mercer, can i get another duh.)
caribou - swim (yummy. also, very fun.)
björk - voltaic (the live session featured in this set is perfection, and the volta remixes are all pretty fantastic in my not so very humble when it comes to björk opinion.)
she & him - volume two (lovely. just, lovely.)
charlotte gainsbourg - IRM (beck’s fingerprints are all over this album, maybe that’s why i like it so much.)
gorillaz - plastic beach (self-explanatory.)
grizzly bear - veckatimest (i’m late to this party, but i can admit now that i do really like this band.)
i’m also just about to get my hands on some passion pit (don’t judge), ratatat, and miike snow. and i can’t wait to listen to the new new pornographers album, as well as get my hands on a more permanent copy of high violet from the national.
(music is good for me.)
